PlayStation Network Credit Card Data Encrypted
Sony announced on Wednesday that credit card information is encrypted on its PlayStation Network, but it cannot be excluded that they are against hackers.
PS3 Hacker George Hotz was any involvement.
“The table of total credit card was encrypted, and we have no evidence that the credit card data was taken, [but] we cannot exclude,” Sony said in a blog.
Other personal information such as name and e-mails were not encrypted, it was behind a sophisticated security system that was injured in a malicious attack, “said Sony.
Accordingly, Sony warns users that their data card “can be bought.” The three-digit code on the back of the card, such as CVC or CSC number is known, was not affected, but since Sony does not request that information so it is not stored on its system.
The fact that Sony has “welcomed” his encrypted data after Sophos analyst Graham Cluley, but “there remains the question of the strength of encryption is that Sony has used the credit card data,” he wrote in a blog.
“Sony still has a chance to reassure its customers missed,” said Cluley. “They should have said in the first announcement of the loss of data that the credit card was encrypted, and they should have in this last communication data was used for the type of encryption provided. ”
Sony PlayStation Network was issues last week, but it was only Tuesday that Sony has confirmed that hackers had personal information from the network, can receive credit cards.
The company is currently working with law enforcement and security technologies in an investigation into what happened. “This malicious attack against our system and our customers against a criminal act, and we are aggressive methods to find those responsible,” said Sony.
The company does not know who is responsible, even though Sony said it would follow the parties “, regardless of where in the world could they be.”
The failure is probably not the work of anonymous group of hackers as a global event in the wake of the legal battle with Sony Hotz, who announced final settlement with the company. Hotz this week denied being involved.
“For each, I was in no way involved with that, do not think I’m crazy, and would prefer not to have the FBI knocking at my door,” Hotz wrote in a blog post Thursday. Running Homebrew and research on aircraft safety is cool, hacking someone else’s servers and databases to steal user information is not cool. You make the hacker community look bad, even if it is for showers for Sony. ”
Hotz said he was “one of the good guys.” One project that was given earlier this year that would allow an alternative for jailbroken PSN download homebrew games consoles. Hotz legal problems made him re- think the plan, but had it succeeded, you would have a place to play online with your PS3 now, “he said Thursday.
Hotz to blame for the failure of Sony executives, “said a war against the pirates laughed at the idea of entering the strongman, the late ex-Sony, piracy and constantly kept hiring more lawyers, if it is really necessary to hire a good security expert. Alienate the hacker community is not a good idea. ”
Hotz concluded with an invitation to leaders not to sell to people with information.
The controversy has already led to a class action against Sony. A California company says the company does not adequately protect encrypt and secure their customer data. Members of Congress have also Sony for answers.
